PLANS are underway to introduce a parking charge at a Barrowford car park.

The Heritage Trust has requested permission to charge for use of the Malt Kiln car park in Gisburn Road.

At the moment it is not allowed to do so under a lease agreement with Pendle Council.

The Trust is proposing parking for the first hour would be free, then it would cost 50p for the second hour, £1.50 for three to five hours and £3.50 for five to eight hours.

Up to 24 hours would cost £5 while a residents' half year permit would cost £20 and a commercial vehicles half year permit would be £50.

A consultation was held with the Higherford Residents Group who said it was necessary for the Trust to earn some income so it can maintain the car park and keep it tidy and safe.

The car park is currently used by residents, church goers, walkers, visitors to the Bridge Inn, tenants at Higherford Mill and their visitors and tenants at Pendle Personnel.

Two trade vehicles also park overnight and weekends.

The issue is due to be discussed at a meeting of the Barrowford and Western Parishes Committee on Thursday, August 10 at 7pm at Holmefield House in Barrowford.
