A 35-YEAR-OLD man who broke into sheds and garages at Nelson Town Hall stole a 'Borough of Pendle' staff jacket and a pair of gloves.
But Blackburn magistrates heard Anthony Mark Sanderson caused £2,000 of damage as he forced doors, damaged roofs and an air conditioning unit.
Sanderson, 35, of Oaklands Avenue, Barrowford, pleaded guilty to burglary and theft of a jacket and a pair of gloves. He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison suspended for 12 months and made subject to a nine months drug rehabilitation requirement.
Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said the garages and sheds were used for storing gardening and street maintenance equipment. All of the doors had been forced, panels removed and damage caused to roofs. The air conditioning unit which had been on a roof was knocked off.
"CCTV showed a single male was responsible for all the damage and that male was identified as the defendant," said Mr Robinson.
Daniel Fraser, defending, said Sanderson had co-operated with the police and when he was charged replied; "I just feel stupid."
