LAND released by Pendle Council’s ‘Right to Build’ programme in Nelson has been snapped up by would-be developers.

Several bids were lodged for five plots of land in Bamford Street, in Marsden, which had outline permission granted for housing in 2016.

Potential builders were asked to register an interest with the authority last summer. Marketing details were sent out to around 125 people.

Sealed bids of between £14,000 and £21,000 were received by the council in response by the end of January.

Members of Nelson’s area committee have accepted two separate bids of £21,000, for two of the plots, and £19,000 for the third, from another party.

Councillors have also given authorisation for the two remaining portions of land, subject to more information being provided by the interested bidders.

Under Right to Build, which was first approved by the council in May 2015, properties can be constructed according to the successful applicant’s own specifications, providing proper financing arrangements can be verified.

The land at Bamford Street, off Barkerhouse Road, had been declared as surplus to the authority’s requirements in October 2014.
