A FORMER outdoor pursuits course in Colne could be transformed into car parks instead of new 3G pitches or a skate park.

People who took part in a consultation to Pendle Council hoped the land between Boundary Mill and Lloyd’s BMW dealership could be used for leisure.

However, officers at the authority have said ‘it is not possible to day how any of the projects proposed would be delivered’.

The council’s executive is to vote on the issue on Thursday, May 25.

Boundary Mill said it wants to provide additional car parking for its staff which would allow them to both grow its workforce and release car parking for customers and Lloyds BMW said the land would help grow the business.

Earlier this year volunteers put together plans to use the land for skateboarders, BMX riders, scooters and roller-skaters to use.

A council spokesman said: “Whilst acknowledging that responses to the consultation do support a leisure use for the site, at this stage it is not possible to say how any of the projects proposed would be delivered and, thereafter, managed and maintained.

“As councillors will be aware, the decision to construct Urban Altitude was taken because of the falling demand for the former astroturf in the light of the availability of facilities elsewhere in the borough.

“It is expected there will be at least two new 3G pitches in Pendle in the coming 12

months.”

Councillors will vote whether to open negotiations with the companies which will be subject to an agreement that sufficient land is earmarked for the provision of a double-track railway through the site.
