COUNCILLORS have been urged to approve a proposal to turn a former car park into a motor sales lot.

The Nelson Committee of Pendle Council will consider the planning application for the land in Leeds Road on Monday, May 8.

The applicant, listed as Mr Shah, wants to create car sales lot, build an office and a covered valeting and vehicle preparation area.

The site is used to store damaged vehicles.

The proposal is for six car sales plots and two customer parking spaces.

The building would have a footprint of 40ft by 15ft and will be 15ft tall.

It would be finished in stone to the front and side and render to the rear with a natural slate roof and upvc windows.

The committee will consider the application because of four objections from nearby residents.

They fear there is insufficient car parking space and the proposed use would increase traffic and create highway safety issues in the area.

Planning officers have recommend the application to be approved by the councillors on the committee.

In a report to the committee a spokesman for the council's planning officers said: “The site in Nelson is an acceptable location in principle for the proposed car sales use

“The proposed use is acceptable in terms of parking provision and highway safety.

“The design and scale of the proposed building area acceptable and its materials would be acceptably in-keeping with the area.”
