PEOPLE are being warned they face a large fine if they are caught fly-tipping.
Pendle Council is reminding people have a duty of care to make sure none of their DIY waste is dumped.
The penalties for fly-tipping are steep and anyone found guilty faces a fine of up to £50,000 or even a sentence of up to five years in prison.
Over the last 12 months the council has dealt with the clearing of around 5000 fly-tips ranging from a couple of bin bags to lorry or trailer loads of waste.
The authority’s environment crime office David Alexander said: “We have prosecuted 67 businesses and local residents for waste disposal offences and this does not include littering.”
The council is also working with the Environment Agency to get the message across.
