AN ARSON investigation has been launched after a caravan was "deliberately" set on fire.

The incident happened in Southfield Street, Nelson, and is believed to have caused thousands of pounds of damage.

Fire crews from Burnley and Colne attended the incident at around 4.55pm today and said when they arrived the fire had spread to two boats.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fires using two hose reels and a jet.

Nobody was injured.

Firefighters have launched a joint investigation. At this stage nobody has been arrested.

A fire service spokesman said: "Two fire engines and crews, from Colne and Burnley, responded to a 999 call reporting a caravan on fire.

"The fire had spread to two boats also and firefighters used two hosereels and one main jet to extinguish it.

"The fire is believed to have been started deliberately. Police were notified. There were no casualties."
