A SPECIAL beer has been named in honour of a Lancashire League cricketer who died earlier this month.

Peter Little, who spent his entire Lancashire League career with Colne Cricket Club, was a a popular figure on and off the playing pitches of East Lancashire over many decades.

Mr Little, 64, died at his home in Boulsworth Grove, Colne, after suffering from liver and pancreatic cancer.

Burnley’s Moorhouses bre-wery honoured Mr Little with a brew called ‘Chumpy’, his nickname, and the beer was served at his wake last Thursday, held at the Cotton Tree in Winewall, which is run by his daughter Helen Sunderland and her husband Dan.

Carla Little, Mr Little’s other daughter, said: “It was lovely of the brewery to honour dad in this way.

“More than 400 people attended to celebrate his life and they drank the beer dry.

“We went through four barrels. Of course it was a sad day, but I’m positive my dad would have approved of us toasting his memory with a beer in his name.

Nigel Ramsey, general manager of Moorhouses, said: “When we were contacted by Dan about providing a dedicated pump clip to honour Peter we were more than happy to oblige.

“Helen provided us with the photograph and the name of the beer which we incorporated into our design.

“Chumpy has been so popular that a number of local pubs have expressed an interested in putting it on their bar.”

Mr Little, who worked at Rolls Royce during his working career, was a Lancashire League player for Colne from 1976 to 1993 and he played football for Trawden Celtic.
