A 26-YEAR-OLD man has been found dead at a house in Colne.

Police were called to the property in Cleveland Street just after 4pm on Friday to reports of a sudden death.

The man had not been seen by his family for some time, police said.

Neighbours described the man, who has not been named, as ‘quiet’ and someone who kept himself to himself.

Residents described seeing a police car and police van at the scene on Friday night.

One resident said: “He was just an ordinary guy.

“He did not mix with people and had a few friends. I was one of them.

“I did not see the police but somebody told me what had happened. It is very sad.”

Another resident said: “I knew him as a neighbour and to say hello to.

“He was a young guy. It is sad.”

Police remained at the scene late on Friday and the front door of the property was boarded up.

Another resident said: “I saw the police van when I took the dog for a walk.

“When I came back there was another police car there. That must have been at about 11pm.

“There was not really a commotion, just the two police vehicles.

“There was a big board across the door as though they had had to smash it in.

“I do not know how long they were there for but it must have been going on for a while.”

Specialist police officers are supporting the man’s family members.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said investigations continue, but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

He said: “We were contacted shortly after 4pm on Friday to reports that a 26-year-old man had sadly been found deceased inside an address on Cleveland Street in Colne.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

“It is believed the man had not been seen by his family for some time.”

A file has been passed to the coroner who will open an inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death.
