RESIDENTS in Colne have been left furious after being 'terrorised' by a group of children throwing rocks at houses.

Complaints have been made from people in Skipton Road about a group of around 10 children in their early teens.

Householders have said that they have seen them acting in a disruptive manner in the area.

Resident Megan Mack, 22, said: "One quite large rock hit my one-year-old son's window and woke him up screaming so I went out back and told the kids to move. Then they started swearing and shouting at me.

"The elderly people around here are getting scared at night and I think everyone is just sick to the back teeth of these disrespectful children causing such a disturbance in the community.

"There are a lot of young kids on these streets being scared and unable to sleep."

Mother-of-two Miss Mack is a barmaid at the Duke of Lancaster pub in Church Street.

She lives on Skipton Road with her two children and her fiancé Andrew Hall who is a aerospace engineer.

Residents have also said that they have seen the youngsters pulling rubbish out of a skip in the road and throwing it in the street.

There have also been reports of them running in the road, kicking back gates, and damaging property in nearby Oak and Elm Street.

Ms Mack said: "Obviously chucking rocks at cars causes damage and also a fair number of cars have had to swerve off the road to avoid hitting children or crashing their cars.

"According to a lot of fathers and mothers I've spoken to the same group of kids also terrorise Skipton Road Park, bullying children and hurting them to the point everyone is scare to let there kids play out."

Leader of Pendle Council, Cllr Mohammed Iqbal, said: "It is wrong that children get up to these antics. Someone could very easily be hit and seriously injured, it could could be fatal.

"Ultimately I'd appeal to parents to make sure they ask what their children are doing and where they are going.

"The children are causing the problem but I'd urge anyone who sees anything to contact the police or the parents, if they know them."

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "While it hasn’t been reported to us we would urge anyone with concerns to come forward and contact us.
