AROUND 400 children put their best foot forward and proudly supported Pendleside Hospice.

The Little Hospice “Super” Heroes event saw the children, all aged under 14, don superhero costumes or bright yellow hospice T-shirts at the event in Towneley Park.

The event, which saw plenty of smiles and laughter, was organised to encourage community spirit and promote healthy living and exercise for children, while raising funds for the hospice in the process.

Around 400 children, including many Spidermen, Wonder Women and more than few Batmen and Robins walked on the day.

They took on a fully marshalled three-mile route which started at 11am from a hospice marquee set up near the park’s playground.

The walk took between one and two hours to complete depending on how old the children were and the kids were accompanied by their parents. At the end of the walk, each child was rewarded with a well earned medal, a certificate and goody bag.

Groups such as nurseries, schools, holiday and after school clubs, Rainbows, Brownies, Beavers and Cubs walked together.

A spokesman for the hospice said: “Everybody had such a good time and it was a real success. We have other events that are aimed at older people so this is a nice event which can get children under the age of 14 to take part.”
