A 50-year-old man has died following a bike collision in Colne.

He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Royal Preston Hospital, but sadly died on Friday.

It follows an incident in Hill Lane around 10pm on Thursday, May 12, when a 19-year-old cyclist fell from her bike in front of two male riders, injuring her leg.

The men cycling behind her collided with each other, causing the 50-year-old to fall from his bike.

He suffered 'major head injuries', police said.

Sgt David Hurst said: "These are tragic circumstances and my thoughts are with this man and his family.

"We are appealing for information and would ask anyone who can help to come forward and contact police.

"If you were in the Hill Lane area and witnessed the incident please contact us."

The second male rider, aged 40, was uninjured and the 19-year-old woman suffered bruising to her leg.

The road was closed for two hours while accident investigators attended.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
