A PENDLE school has hailed it’s GCSE results as “one of the best sets in its history” at its annual awards night.

Ss John Fisher and Thomas More RC High School in Colne honoured its returning Year 11 students at a special event.

GCSE certificates were handed out alongside a range of awards.

Among the wards to be handed out on the night was The Grimshaw Shield for Success in Public Examinations which was given to Carly Nuttall.

The Lawrenson Trophy for Service to the School was received by Jamall Iqbal and Justyna Miloszewska and Lewis Bracewell was awarded the the Deborah Kay trophy for Effort and Achievement.

Charlotte Smith was given the Trophy for Contribution to School Life, Megan McCardle received The Lord Alton Citizenship Trophy and the PE Outstanding Sporting Award for Achievement went to Liam Lee.

Head teacher Clare Hayes said: “Once again we held a very successful presentation evening at Ss John Fisher and Thomas More RC High School.

“The event was very well attended by past pupils and their families.

“We were delighted that Father Frank Mulgrew was able to join us to present all the certificates, awards and trophies.

“Our class of 2015 delivered one of the best set of results in the school’s history with 64 per cent gaining at least 5 A*-Cs including English and maths.

“A large number of pupils achieved the highest grades in three or more of their subjects.

“This year group are a very special and highly talented group of young people who I am sure will go out to achieve great things.”
