THREE men and a teenager “ambushed” a friend in his own home when they discovered that he kept a roll of money wrapped inside a bandage on his leg, a court heard.

Alleged victim Mark Wilkinson was repeatedly punched and kicked until he handed over the money to Stewart Murgatroyd, 44, and a gang of three, Burnley Crown Court was told.

The quartet are alleged to have taken £900, which Mr Wilkinson kept hidden inside the bandage, the court heard.

Murgatroyd, his daughter, Demi Murgatroyd, 18, both of Halifax Road, Lee Foster, 26, of Berkley Street, and Daniel Slusarczyk, 20, of Chapelhouse Road, all Nelson, both said to be boyfriends of Murgatroyd’s other daughters, are all on trial after denying the robbery of Mr Wilkinson on May 25.

Rachel Faux, prosecuting, said Demi’s boyfriend, while at Mr Wilkinson’s home weeks beforehand, asked to borrow a fiver and watched as he produced it from underneath a bandage on his leg.

This fact was relayed to Stewart Murgatroyd, who later turned up at Mr Wilkinson’s home and started “banging on the door”, only to be ignored, the court heard. Weeks later, Demi Murgatroyd turned up at Mr Wilkinson’s house and shouted through the letterbox.

When he opened the front door, it was forced open and her father, accompanied by Foster and Slusarczyk, burst in, the court was told.

Foster is alleged to have punched Mr Wilkinson in the face, knocking him to the ground, where he was kicked repeatedly.

The court heard that Jacqueline Pratt and Andrew Sanderson, who say they witnessed much of the alleged robbery on Mr Wilkinson, helped him to call the police.

All four of the defendants were later stopped in a taxi, near to Foster’s home in Berkeley Street.

The defendants told officers that they had stopped off to feed Foster’s dogs, which the prosecution insist would not have required a cab trip for all four of them.

CCTV footage is also said to place three men and a young woman in the immediate vicinity of Mr Wilkinson’s home, shortly before and after the alleged robbery.

The trial continues.
