PARENTS past and present of children at a failing Pendle school have had their say on its Ofsted troubles.

Concerns over how Barrowford Primary School is being run have been aired on the Lancashire Telegraph website.

They come after the school dropped from an Ofsted rating of ‘good’ to ‘inadequate’ in its latest inspection.

In the aftermath of the report, the head teacher and the chairman of governors said they were doing all they can to address the issues raised by the inspectors and bring about “continued positive change”.

Some parents have come out in support of the school but most have spoken out about how it is being run.

The Rushton Street school hit the headlines in the summer after being criticised for advocating an alternative disciplinary policy, which includes sanction-free rules.

Commenter ‘Claireb1978’, who said her two children had attended the school, contributed to the debate online.

She said: “As a parent whose second child joined the school only three years ago, trust me, this is not the school it used to be.

“This school has deteriorated rapidly in the past three years, so much so I have now removed my child, who has come on leaps and bounds since leaving. My child has flourished in the six months at her new school, where there is discipline and rules.

“She wants to do well and has an enthusiasm for learning, which was never encouraged at Barrowford.”

Supporters of the school, however, jumped in with their thoughts.

Posting on the website, ‘Myview123’ said: “The report does not reflect my opinion of the school.

“Both my children attended Barrowford and are now at high school.

“The teaching they received was excellent. The experiences they had were outstanding.

“They excelled in all traditional subjects but most importantly they developed confidence, resilience and learned about diversity. I am a proud Barrowford parent and know Ofsted got it wrong.”

However, ‘239demdike’ said: “I have expressed concerns about other children’s behaviour and lack of discipline previously.”
