A MAN who threw a glass at his long-term partner and left her covered in blood has been jailed for 16 months.

Michael Creggon, aged 68, even called the police to confess what he had done to Faye Muir, Burnley Crown Court was told.

Prosecutor Stephen Parker said that police were regularly called out to the Nelson home of the couple, who both had drinking problems.

Just a month before the glass incident Creggon, of Chapel House Road, had been given a 16-month suspended prison sentence for arson, after he set tissues alight and accidentally torched a sofa where they were both sat, the court heard.

Mr Parker said Miss Muir had thrown a glass at Creggon earlier in the day, after both had been drinking.

Later he came downstairs and threw the glass back at her, leaving her covered in blood and needing six staples to seal a head wound.

Mark Stuart, defending, said the couple, who each had their own drink-related medical difficulties, still intended to marry, upon the defendant’s release.

Jailing Creggon, who admitted a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm, Recorder Tania Griffiths QC said it appeared that the pair had a volatile relationship but both could make their own decisions in life.
