MEMBERS of Pendle Council’s Nelson Committee have been asked to approve the spending of £1,320 on repairs and maintenance at Lomeshaye Wharf in the town.

The Environment Action Group has asked for the cash from its £68,890 budget for 2014-2015.

Project co-ordinator Tricia Wilson told committee members in a report to their December meeting at Nelson Town Hall on Monday (1/12) that the money is urgently needed for “ad-hoc repairs”.

Her document tells them: “Lomeshaye Wharf is on the Pendle Borough Council’s Problem Sites List.

“This list includes sites which were formerly Housing Regeneration’s responsibility but funding for maintenance and liability is being transferred to either Engineering and Special Projects (ESP) or Parks Departments.

“Currently ESP and Parks are working out the cost of maintaining and inspecting all the sites that are due to be transferred. In the meantime some of the sites need urgent ad hoc attention such as Lomeshaye Wharf where there has been theft of stone flags and copings.

“The general maintenance of this site will be done by Parks, but this additional amount is required to ensure the site is tidy and safe.

“Particularly important is the need to reduce the risk of trip hazards on the site.

“The aim is to carry out ad hoc repairs to ensure the council-owned site is tidy and risk free as soon as possible.”

If approved, the cash will be spent on replacing 20 stone flags, rebuilding a wall and repairing two benches at the Lomeshaye Wharf.
