THE new £11million Barnoldswick school has brought an ‘education revolution’ to Barnoldswick, Earby and its surrounding villages.

The newly-built Barnoldswick CE Primary School in Kelbrook Road, opened its doors to 248 pupils for the first time last week.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, will be making a visit to officially open the school on Wednesday, October 8.

Headteacher Michelle Dodgson said: “When people walk in they say ‘wow’ because of all of our new facilities. It really is amazing.”

The school had an open day last Tuesday and pupils enjoyed their first day in the new building last Wednesday.

“They are all very excited” said Ms Dodgson. “We’ve got a lot more space now. The staff have been in over summer holidays and have worked hard to ensure that everything is ready for the children.”

Ms Dodgson said parents had been impressed with the facilities and that the children were getting used to their new surroundings.

“The children have settled in to their new routines.

“We’ve had a lot of assemblies and we’ve physically taken the children around school to show them where everything is.”

She added: “They like the new multi-use games area, the large playing spaces, the yards for juniors and infants and the large outdoor area for reception children.”

The school can now also make use of ultra modern ICT equipment, including interactive smart boards, iPads and laptops.

And, because the school now has more space, it has been able to expand the number of clubs it can offer including netball, football, choir, arts and crafts and a homework club.
