A MUM with more than 100 offences to her name stole alcohol worth almost £80 to pay for a damaged lock at home, a court heard.

Burnley magistrates were told that Kim Cowburn’s daughter had moved in with her while tagged and was said to have ‘caused all manner of problems’ including damage. Cowburn’s solicitor said the defendant, an ex-drug addict, had not gone back to her old ways or had a relapse.

The defendant, 50, of Thursby Road, Nelson, admitted theft of alcohol worth £79, from Sainsbury’s in Colne, on September 9. She has 108 offences on her record, including 59 for theft. She was given an 18- month conditional discharge and told to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

A district judge told her that although she had an “appalling record”, her offending appeared to have been tailing off over the last few years.

Mark Williams, defending, said there was significant conflict between the defendant and her daughter, who was “causing all manner of problems”. Cowburn was very apologetic when detained.
