A NEW president has taken over the reins at a women’s club which raises funds for good causes.

Kathleen Riley from Roughlee has taken over the role from Marie Foulds from Foulridge who has been president of the Inner Wheel Club of Noyna for the past year.

The club, which celebrated its 33rd anniversary in May meet on the last Wednesday of every month at the Simply Classic Bistro in Unit 10c, Shuttleworth Mead Business Park, Padiham.

The club was formed in 1981 as a way for the wives of Rotary Club members to help their communities and to raise funds for charities.

The group of 17 women plan upcoming fundraising events and community projects, listen to guest speakers and enjoy a meal together.

Marie Foulds, one of the founder members of the club said: “The Inner Wheel Club was set up for friendship and service to the community.

“We carry out a lot of fundraising through holding various events.

“We have held a successful overseas evening where we had bring and buy stalls a raffle and a meal.

“At Christmas we raised £350 for Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue team by holding a shopping evening at the Old Rock in Trawden where we had mince pies and wine.

“We also send money to international charities and institutions.

“We’ve raised funds for a charity called KIK, which sponsors children in Sierra Leone, and for Mercy Ships, an organisation which sends a hospital ship around the world to provide medical help to those in need”.

The club is open to the wives and partners of Rotary Club members and people invited by the members of the Inner Wheel Club.
