A boy aged 10 sustained what were described as minor head injuries when he was hit by a car in Regent Street, Nelson.
Police said they believe the boy ran into the road at around 3.10pm on Wednesday.
Inspector Phil Hutchinson said: “It appears the child collided with the car. The incident has been described as a low-speed collision.
“The car swerved to avoid the boy but failed to avoid the child.
“He sustained minor head injuries and was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital.”
