RESCUE missions in East Lancs will be a little easier now thanks to the generosity of three county councillors.

The Haslingden-based Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team made applications to the general funds held by county councillors Mike Calvert, Shelagh Derwent and George Askew for nearly £125 each.

Team leaders said they were often called out by Lancashire Police to assist with missing persons enquiries or help people who become lost or injured on moorland, often at night.

Powerful torches and tripods would make their job more straightforward - each beam would enable team members to scan large open areas quickly and efficiently.

The lighting would also prove valuable for when paramedics need to treat casualties in remote locations.
