Pendle MP urges blue badge holders to check expiry dates
11:53am Friday 21st December 2012 in Pendle
AN East Lancashire MP has urged all blue badge holders to check expiry dates after it emerged reminders are not sent out by the county council.
Fines of £35 are imposed on offending motorists and Pendle’s Andrew Stephenson believes no notification was made of the change.
He said: “I was disappointed to learn that Lancashire County Council have decided to act this way. Their policy has caught out at least one constituent of mine already and I bet others will forget to renew if they are waiting on a reminder notice they don’t know isn’t coming.”

Perhaps foolishly I used the old badge after its expiry date and was given (and paid) a fixed penalty notice for ‘failing to display a valid badge’.
Here we are on 21st December and the new badge has yet to materialise from LCC despite all forms and supporting documents having been submitted timeously. Ok, they had me ‘stitched up a treat’ but it feels like extortion.
So don’t forget to apply for renewal and do so at least 2 months before its expiry.

I knew reminders were not issued and at the beginning of November applied for renewal of the badge which expired on 6th December.

You have been stitched up. As long as the badge holder is still entitled to the blue badge scheme then you shouldn't have paid a penalty. Particularly since you'd already applied for renewal of the badge and had not received a new one. You acted in good faith, and I very much doubt LCC would take further action (it would cost them more to take you to court) so 'always' appeal any decision and if the appeal is refused then reply stating you acted in good faith whilst awaiting renewal of your badge and are willing to defend your decision in a court of law if needed.
.
others can renew the badge by ringing 0845 053 0049
