PENDLE Council last night received the SaBRE award in recognition of its efforts to support armed forces volunteers across the borough.

SaBRE, or Support for Britain’s Reservists and Employers, recognises support for promoting reservists, trained volunteers within the armed forces, to local employers.

Councillor Neil Butterworth, the council’s armed forces champion, will present the award to the Mayor of Pendle, Coun Asjad Mahmood.

Coun Mahmood said: “It’s an honour to accept this award on behalf of the council.

“Signed by both the secretary of defence and the chief of the defence staff, it recognises the work the council has done to support military personnel and in promoting reservists to local employers.”
