A COLNE high school has accelerated since the previous inspection and achievement is now good, according to Ofsted inspectors.
Officers said that standards have risen year on year since 2009 at St John Fisher and Thomas More RC High School, in Gibfield Road, and science and mathematics were the highest in the school’s history. The report said the quality of teaching is good, and has improved markedly since the previous inspection.
It also praised teachers’ questioning, which encourages students to think more deeply about their studies, and teaching assistants provide sensitive support for students who find the work difficult.
The inspector said: “The headteacher continues to have high ambitions for the school, and staff and members of the governing body share the same clear view of how the school can move forward.”
It said areas for improvement were lesson plans being matched better to students’ needs, and more consistency in marking.
