BIN collections in Pendle will take place as normal on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Only residents who have their bins collected on a Tuesday or Wednesday will find that their collection day moves because of the festive period.

Tuesday collections will take place on Thursday, December 27 and Wednesday, January 2, and Wednesday collections on Friday, December 28, and then back to normal the following week.

Garden waste collections are suspended between Christmas Eve and Friday, January 4.

They will start again from Monday, January 7, when the council will also be collecting Christmas trees from across the borough.

Coun John David, who represents the council’s waste management department, said: “It is easy to forget when so many of us have an extended holiday break just how hard our refuse crews work. They have only Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day off.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in Pendle for their commitment to recycling during 2012.”
