THE funeral of a former Barnoldswick man who died in a car crash in Warwickshire took place yesterday (Friday).

Daniel Lambert, 32, spent his younger life in Barnoldswick before accepting a job in Coventry after university.

His parents, Ian and Sally Lambert, still live in Barnoldswick. Ian is well-known for his computer work in schools, and Sally, a former town councillor, is an active member of Barnoldswick and Earby Bosom Friends.

His mum Sally said: “Dan was a very personable lad and was very friendly. We have been overwhelmed with messages from family and friends.”

He was educated at the town’s Church School and West Craven High School, where he won the Schofield Prize for mathematics and the Rolls-Royce Shop Stewards’ Prize for engineering.

He then studied his A-levels at Nelson and Colne College, winning the Shaw Greening Trophy for mathematics, and was offered a place at Warwick University to study mathematics after his entrance exam placed him among the top ten per cent of students in the country.

Mr Lambert died in a crash near his home in Stratford-upon-Avon on the night of Sunday November 18.

“He had daily contact with people from places as far afield as the Isle of Man and Sweden and his boss said he had touched many lives,” said Sally.

In his younger days, Dan was a cub with Barnoldswick’s Holy Trinity pack and was a member of West Craven Swimming Club.

He had also worked part-time at Harry Garlick’s electrical shop and the Lakeside Garden Centre at Foulridge.

His funeral took place at Holy Trinity Church, Barnoldswick, followed by cremation at Skipton.

He leaves four-year-old daughter, Ruby, his parents, Ian and Sally, sister Carla, brother Jack, niece Isla and nephew Finlay.
