PENDLE MP Andrew Stephenson has called on local charities working in developing countries to apply for funding from the Government.

He said he had been contacted by Secretary of State for International Development, Justine Greening MP, who has asked him to alert Pendle organisations to a new funding round of the Global Poverty Action Fund.

The Conservative representative said it was a great opportunity for groups in the borough.

Mr Stephenson said: “Pendle plays host to some excellent charities that do incredible work in some of the most challenging places in the world.

“For example, I am a supporter of ‘Kids in Kailahun’, a charity that helps to support children in Sierra Leone.

“Our International Development Department provides community partnership funding aimed at small organisations that work with communities in developing countries to reduce poverty, as well as working with the larger organisations most people will have heard of.

“I want charities in Pendle to be aware of this support for the inspiring work they do.”
