MOPED and scooter owners are being urged to be extra vigilant after a spate of thefts.

In the last week, police have received numerous reports where bikes have been targeted in the Burnley and Nelson areas.

The latest incident happened overnight between Sunday and Monday when a £2,000 black Aprilia scooter was stolen from Nairne Street, Burnley.

Officers are urging people to be extra vigilant and report anything suspicious.

DI Jes Holland said: “Most of these offences have happened as a result of people leaving the mopeds insecure. I urge people to invest in a good quality chain or lock or keep it in a secure area such as a shed or garage.

“Anyone who sees anything suspicious or who has any information about the thefts should contact the police.”

They can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
