THE former home of a welfare association in Pendle is set to be sold after sitting empty for 11 years.

Number 46 Victoria Street, in Nelson, had been kept by the council since 2001 as part of wide regeneration plans for the Whitefield area.

But funding for those plans has been limited and now the council is to sell the building off.

Glenys Barnes, of Pendle Council’s property management arm Liberata, said: “The property has been vacant since Faisalabad Welfare Association vacated in April 2001.

“Regeneration proposals have been drawn up in the past for the Whitefield area, with a range of options which may have included properties on Victoria Street.

“However, due to reductions in government funding, any regeneration outside the phase one area cannot now take place.

“The council has received enquiries from the public who wish to buy the property in its current condition.

“The sale would generate a capital receipt for the council and terminate all financial and other liabilities.”
