A MAN has been charged with a string of driving offences after two people were injured in a quad bike crash in Nelson on Thursday.

Gulhassan Khan, 23, from Reedley Road in Brierfield, handed himself over to police in Royal Blackburn Hospital following the incident in Manchester Road.

He has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of a road accident, driving without due care and attention, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

He was released on bail until November 30.

A 77-year old woman and her 56-year-old son remain in Royal Blackburn Hospital with serious injuries, although they are not believed to be life-threatening.

The elderly woman suffered serious head injuries, losing skin from the back of her head and breaking a leg, shoulder and ribs.

Her son was left with two compound fractures to his ankle and a broken leg.

A female police officer who fainted at the scene has been discharged from hospital.
