HOLY Cross Catholic High School’s new head Ivan Gaughan is keen for year five and six pupils to come and see for themselves how excellent his school is – and he aims to make it even better.

Mr Gaughan took over at the Chorley school in April this year after 20 years as a music and RE teacher including nine years as a deputy head at Blessed Trinity in Burnley.

The father-of-two knew the moment he walked into Holy Cross that it was the place he wanted to be and the school he wants to bring more success to.

“I remember visiting Holy Cross before I applied for the headship and being struck by the feel of the school, its ethos and atmosphere. I knew this was a happy place where young people would flourish,” said Mr Gaughan.

Holy Cross has just spent £70,000 on redeveloping their library and have plans to modernise the music, art and food technology areas.

“This is a proper catholic school with a real sense of community based on outstanding relationships,” added Mr Gaughan.

“We want people to come and see for themselves what a superb school it is.”

Holy Cross’s Open Day is on Wednesday, October 15 from 6pm-8.30pm.
