MORE than 90 per cent of people who answered a survey on changes to bin collection services in Bury are against the decision.

Around 2,000 households responded to MP David Nuttall’s questionnaire, with 91.7 per cent disagreeing with Bury Council’s decision to empty grey general waste bins once every three weeks instead of fortnightly.

The ambitious plans to create a ‘zero waste’ borough, green and blue recycling bins will be emptied once every three weeks instead of four, while brown bins will continue to be collected once every two weeks.

The council says the changes will boost recycling rates and achieve annual savings of £862,000 in waste treatment and disposal costs.

Just seven per cent of people agreed with the changes, and 31 per cent thought the grey bins should be collected weekly, 61 per cent thought they should continue to be emptied fortnightly, and one per cent suggesting they should be collected monthly
