PARK keepers and the working group in Valley Gardens, Barnoldswick, are inviting people to join them to create a compost area in the park.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the Gisburn Road entrance of the park on Saturday, October 4 at 10am. The central composting point will be made available for local residents to use and compost their fruit and vegetable peelings.
Composting areas help the environment and provide the building blocks towards ‘zero waste’ and ‘low carbon’ communities.
Composting is the most natural way to deal with organic waste and can improve soil quality so helps grow healthy plants.
Organic waste can make up to 30 per cent of household waste and can produce strong greenhouse gases when disposed of in landfill.
