THE annual Beating the Bounds event in Barnoldswick is on Sunday.
The event is a walk around the township’s boundaries, with walkers brandishing willow wands and beating the town’s boundary stones.
Organised by Barnoldswick Town Council, the nine-mile walk is part of the Pendle Walking Festival.
It includes an ascent of the shoulder of Weets Hill and is described as ‘hard’ in the walking festival programme.
Lunch is served by town councillors at the halfway point; in turn, hikers are expected to join in the singing of the Beating the Bounds song at the lunch stop led by town crier Eliza Mowe.
Participants receive a Beating the Bounds medal for taking part. The walk sets off from Letcliffe Park at 10.30am.
