MEMBERS of a Langho church have signed a petition being sent to the Foreign Secretary about the current situation in Gaza.
The petition, signed by members of St Mary’s RC Church, asks the government to push for a ‘lasting and comprehensive’ ceasefire by all parties and humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip. It also asks it to work with the Israeli and Palestinian authorities to agree long term measures to end the suffering and deal with the root causes of the conflict, including an end to the occupation of Palestinian territory, to the building of settlements and to the closure of Gaza. The petition has been organised by the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD).
A cheque for £250 from parish funds has been sent to CAFOD to help in its humanitarian effort in Gaza to provide water, food, shelter and medical care.
