A man is a serious condition in hospital after being discovered unconscious outside a bar in Ayrshire following an attack.

Police were called to a report of the man lying unconscious outside a bar in Largs, North Ayrshire, early on Sunday.

The emergency services attended The Lounge bar on Main Street at 1.10am and the man was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment to a serious head injury.

He has since been transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where staff describe his condition as serious.

Detective Constable Grant Currie said: “We are in the initial stages of the inquiry and we are trying to establish the circumstances of what has happened and exactly where it happened.

“A young man been attacked and has suffered a significant head injury. I am appealing to people who were out and about last night in the Main Street in Largs to contact us.

“Perhaps you saw something which didn’t seem important last night but in light of the attack on this young man, your information could prove vital to helping us establish what has happened and trace whoever is responsible for this attack.”
