I WOULD just like to point out a couple of important corrections to the article headed Leisure Centre agreed at last' (LT April 26).

Firstly the new sports hall at Darwen Vale has already been built and is up and running!

Another new sports hall will also be built as part of the Darwen Academy.

That is why, at the time of the first planning application for the Leisure Centre, it was thought that yet another new sports hall was not needed.

Because of this change the Leisure Centre has been delayed by about 18 months and added £3million to the cost.

The new sports hall at the Leisure Centre will be two-thirds the size of the old one.

Secondly, the previous plans also included the re-building of the portico and a movable floor etc.

The only real difference between the new plans and the previous plan is the addition of a sports hall.

DAVE SMITH, Sunnyhurst, Darwen.

Finally, a Labour Cllr (albeit an ex) who admits that the people of Darwen are only worth a split-site Leisure Centre.
Dave, can you tell me how much it was going to cost to save the front facade?
Who took the decision to close the Leisure Centre so early? (Labour ran the Council at the time I believe)
Now you are free from Party allegiance as a Cllr, please answer the above without Political bias, as I am genuinely interested.
