YET again there has been a serious accident on Roman Road, Darwen (LT April 16). This is the fifth accident at least this year.
Several of the residents have spoken to Councillor Julie Slater (East Rural ward councillor) and also to Mr Peter van Eijsden (principal road safety engineer for Capita) to voice their concerns about the speed of some motorists.
Two things that we have suggested are:
1. Reduce the speed limit from Blacksnape to Blackamoor from 40mph to 30mph.

2. Introduce traffic-calming measures on either side of the dwellings such as speed humps or chicanes.
We believe that traffic is being encouraged to use Roman Road to avoid the heavy traffic being experienced on the A666 Darwen/Blackburn main road.
We also consider that a motorist or a pedestrian could suffer a fatality rather sooner than later.
