IT greatly saddens me that Blackburn with Darwen Citizens Advice Bureau is being threatened with closure due to the reduction of funding by the local council by 50 per cent (LT, April 26).
Although CAB staff jobs face an uncertain future with the possibility of redundancy, it is the people of Blackburn and Darwen Borough who will be the losers.
I am not blaming one particular political party, as within the last year there has been a shift of power from Labour to a Tory-led coalition. I am blaming all Blackburn with Darwen councillors.

Money, in my opinion, has been spent on daft projects, eg the new so-called energy efficient street lamp at the centre of Sudell Cross which so I believe cost more than £66,000.
This money could have been spent on extra funding for charity organisations such like Blackburn with Darwen CAB who give an excellent service providing guidance, support and advice to clients on their rights and responsibilities when faced with certain problems.
I urge Blackburn with Darwen Council to think again.

I live in Angesey, North Wales but am Blackburn born & bred and after reading the letter posted by MR GRAHAM A FOULDS, Royds Street, Accrington, I would urge Blackburn with Darwen citizens to lobby their local council to at least maintain if not increase their CAB core funding. I have recently commenced work with my local CAB and was astounded at the breadth and depth of their work in the community. All those who have received free services or have known someone who has received such services need to pledge their support now. Don't forget the council is there to serve you the public and fund services you want. There is no other voluntary organisation who delivers such high quality services for free. Who will you go to in future for your advice, to help you complete you forms, to write challenging letters etc???
Your CAB is a not for profit organisation - any funding is used to provide services to the public- we do not charge anyone for anything. If you value this service you need to act now before you lose it.
