    Candidates just can’t be bothered!

LOCAL election time. Canvassing? Oh yes, I received a colour leaflet from the Labour candidate, an obviously self produced 1/3 A4 leaflet from the Tory candidate, which still had the guillotine shards on it, and from the Liberal Democrat candidate? I am still waiting.

What happened to the days when you knocked on ward doors and spoke to your prospective voters?

I haven't seen a ward councillor at my door for the last 10 years.

Is it that they think they have a God-given right to your vote, or is it that they just can't be bothered with the trivia of talking to voters?

Gone are the days when it was an honour to serve as a councillor and you actually cared for your ward.

Now it appears it's all about expenses, least work required and autocracy.

    ALAN VERNON, Higher Croft Ward.

I am glad they published your letter, because I sent one in a similar vein.
Here on Buncer Lane we have 2 candidates, neither of whom have seen fot to make any contact. Mr Harling sent a Labour Party generic flyer, claiming that everthing that happened in the borough in the past two year was down to his party, The Tory, whose name I cannot even remember did not bother to do anything. Last year I asked my local councilors to respond to a question about the Benefot Fraud Man who lives up the road from me. Aside from the leader of the Labour group, and one tory none saw fit to even reply. Even my own ward representatives

It makes you think doesnt it. They all claim the expenses and love the power. But do they actualy want the job of help the people of borough.

I think I might stand as an indpendant nest time. because I am sure that if I give up three weeks on the knock prior to election day. I would wipe the floor with these no marks who are standing today in my ward.

And no I did not vote for either candidate, How can I when I do not know what they stand for.

maybe None of the above, should also appear on local ballots

Mr Vernon is incorrect. All residents in Higher Croft have received at least THREE Conservative leaflets, including one A3 in full colour. Many have received five. Each leaflet gave full contact details and had Mr Vernon wanted to talk to me then I would have been delighted to pay him a vist. Had Mr Vernon read the conservative leaflet that he does admit to receiving then he would have realised that there was no liberal democrat candidate. This fact has also been reported in the Telegraph.

and it is pure coincidence that not a single Tory V Lib Dem ballot was to be had in the entire Borough.
    What a farce

The Lib Dems and Tories should be Compelled by law to put up a candidate in every ward as Labour already do they are denying voters the right to choose. Two
    rival
businesses who operated in this way would be dragged before the oft.

Dave Harling and Kate Hollern both represent the same ward (Wensley Fold).Kate Hollern is the Leader of the labour group. So you did get reply from your one of your local councillors.I think Kate is doing a grand job.
