Election attacks are just not true

SOMEONE once said that politics is a rough old trade. Especially in the run-up to election time all parties attack the policies and records of opponents.

And this is fair enough. However, I have seen recent Coalition leaflets just making things up.

They have said that if Labour are elected we would not build Darwen Leisure Centre. This is not true. Every penny for the new centre was in our alternative budget.

They have said that if elected Labour would scrap the new refuse collection system. This is not true. We think spending £1.5 million to change to the new system was a waste of money. But spending another £1.5 million to change it back would be just as bad.

COUN DAVE HOLLINGS, St Albans Road, Darwen.

Cllr Hollings, are you saying that if Labour were to be back in control of B&D council you would not revert to splitting the Leisure Centre over 2 sites as YOUR party proposed and planned for originally????

That is absolutely right, Andy.

Our proposal meant that we would have had a new Leisure Centre up and running for September this year. Leaving Darwen without a Leisure Centre for the shortest possible time was a priority for us.

The Coalition's proposal has delayed the new Leisure Centre for at least another year. The Planning application for the new Centre only goes before Planning Committee tomorrow.

Darwen needs its new Leisure Centre open as soon as possible. To go back to the drawing board once again would be wrong. What's done is done. Let's get Darwen's new Leisure Centre up and running as soon as possible.

Cllr Dave Hollings...you know full well that if your arrogant mob had been left in control you would have split it over two sites, which the people of Darwen DIDN'T want. That's why you're no longer in control..you do what YOU want rather than what the PEOPLE want. You only ever get elected because you rely on the large numbers of people in Darwen who would vote for a chimpanzee if you stuck a red rosette on it.

I think you will find it is, and still will be on two sites,

Have you visited Darwen Vale School recently.

This is just more spin, almost as much as Melias 22million for a stadium, a hotel a lots of shops.

They would need to be made of lego
