Demolition still a last resort

I appreciate this opportunity to clarify what appear to be some misunderstandings.

I and Civic Voice are very much against the demolition of the Infirmary Memorial Wing in every circumstance except one. That exception is, if demolition becomes inevitable because of the dangerous state of the building, I have suggested that we ask the developers to offer to design and build on any suitable site, at their expense, another building of modern design to perform a similar function to the original, that of helping to save lives.

A smaller token memorial could be put on the Infirmary site. Neither I nor Civic Voice has any political or commercial interest in anything that is proposed or decided about the Infirmary site.

In the meantime, we hope that ways of keeping the building can be found.

I must emphasise that demolition would be very much a last resort.

I actually saw the plans for this area over 8 years ago at Ivy Street Community Centre.
Where is the justice whereby a company can can buy a piece of land for development containing a beautiful building bought by the people and turn it into a sprawling wasteland ?
It occurs to me that the civic voice is in a mouth without teeth !

Well Mr Smalley, your original article and even this one sound like your preparing the people of Blackburn for the final departure of the Memorial wing. This building was destroyed intentionally, all the windows were smashed by the workers demolishing the other parts of the site to allow the damp and pigeons in. If you have a civic voice then tell the builders to rack off and get this building renovated like they originally said they would.
