Sirens to jump the queues?

11:59am Thursday 18th March 2010

IS it just me or has the sound-track to our town centres become the wailing of emergency sirens? In Blackburn where I work, it’s rare that I can ever step outside or open a window without hearing the scream of an ambulance, police car or fire engine.

I’m certain that our 999 services do a sterling job and, when called upon, must reach the scene in rapid time.

But I’m beginning to wonder, can all these sirens be for genuine emergencies or are our uniformed heroes merely using them to beat Blackburn’s appalling traffic congestion?
