Recreation ground is a waste

With reference to the letter from Avril Hesson and the question of Towneley (LT, March 11), she says the Burnley Football University is a good idea but if she looks at the plan, it hinges partly on the cricket club moving.

Fulledge Rec or the old school site would be perfect. As for the recreation ground being lost, apart from the annual fair sited there, it is a barren cinder-filled waste of land.

Yes, open spaces are at a premium all over. The new cricket club, I am led to believe, would be able to accommodate county matches and this in turn would bring in much-needed investment to Burnley.

Would she rather see an already depressed town go even moreso? It seems so. It’s more of a case of not-in-my-backyard.
