Dedication at hospice is humbling

I WAS extremely moved by your story (LT, March 10) regarding John Morphet being prepared to rent out one of his luxury Barbados homes for a year to raise money for Derian House children’s hospice.

My granddaughter, Lois Grace Entwistle, died in October last year and the hospice provided fantastic support for her parents, my daughter Louise and her partner Danny.

Without these hospices, parents of terminally-ill children would struggle to get the help required not only during the life of their child, but also in the difficult times in the event of a death.

It is a very humbling experience to walk round Derian House and see the dedication the staff give to the children and their families.

They deserve every penny they get and it is a disgrace that government funding is so pitiful.

When people like Mr Morphet do so much to raise money for these hospices, it brings shame on every politician who says they care about the less fortunate children in our society. Steven Entwistle, Sough Road, Darwen
