WHILST not disagreeing with what Councillor Roy Davies says about funding road repairs (‘Reality of holes in the road’, Letters, March 3), it’s what he doesn’t say that speaks volumes!
Coun Davies, together with his Lib-Dem/Tory/ ‘For Darwen’ colleagues running the council did indeed put an extra £500,000 for road resurfacing in 08/09 and 09/10.
However, what he doesn’t say is that he voted against the Labour councillors’ proposals to invest an extra £1million per year! And he voted against an extra £750,000 of investment as proposed by Labour councillors in the budget for 2010/11!
He is again correct that certain road resurfacing schemes have been delayed into 2010/11. These are the schemes at Altlas Road, Robin Bank Road, Harwood Street, Earnsdale Road and Manor Road, all in Darwen.
What he doesn’t say is that not one road resurfacing scheme in Blackburn has been delayed into the next financial year.
Not only are the Tory/Lib Dem/ ‘For Darwen’ coalition running the council short changing us on road resurfacing, they seem to be deliberately targeting Darwen when it comes to repairing our roads.
