Keep your hands off Towneley!

HOW many times will Burnley people have to defend Towneley from unwanted development?

The country’s first football university is a great idea. Moving the Cricket Club to Towneley to make room for the new development at Turf Moor is totally unacceptable, though.

After the public enquiry, we were told that former school site would be made into parkland in exchange for the playing fields where the new school would be built.

Now we are told it will be taken away from Burnley people to build a replacement for the Cricket Club. In time past, plans for Towneley have included housing and a golf club. It is not so long ago that Burnley Football Club proposed a development at Turf Moor which would have meant the Cricket Club would have moved to the Fulledge Recreation Ground and that would have been lost to us. Fortunately, that plan came to nothing.

When are the developers and the football club going to stop trying to grab open space?

Towneley is a vital open space for our town. It is time these nibblings by developers stopped, before the park vanishes entirely.
