High spirits in Bolton-le-Sands as the Olympic torch arrives
3:18pm Friday 22nd June 2012 in Lancaster and Morecambe news
THE atmosphere was ‘wonderful’ as young and old came together to watch the Olympic flame pass through Bolton-le-Sands today.
After beginning its north Lancashire journey at Carnforth, the iconic torch was carried down the A6 where it was met by excited residents from Bolton-le-Sands and the surrounding area.
Deputy head of the village primary school, Mark Hamblett, said pupils were in high spirits as they waited in the rain: “We all enjoyed it and were kept entertained - it was wonderful,” he said.
“We’ve had a big build up to this day at school - the children understand the values of the Olympics and the history. They all knew it is something they are unlikely to see again so were excited, and it is something they will always remember.”
Chair of the Parish Council, Keith Budden, was also out to support the occasion. He said: “It went very well - hundreds of people turned out and it was a much bigger event than most people expected.
“We all put our waterproofs and hats on and made the best of it.”
