STORY Homes says the final residents are moving in at The Silks, its collection of 71 new homes in the north Lancashire village of Galgate.

The name harks back to Galgate's once-thriving role in the silk industry. The Grade II-listed, five-storey Galgate Silk Mill with its tapering brick chimney was said to be the first mechanical silk-spinning mill in the country.

Story Homes sales manager Clare Wilson said: "It is great to see building come to an end at The Silks and to see the thriving community that exists there now."

The development, at Stoney Lane, is the second by Story Homes in the North West to be sold out. All 71 properties are now reserved and the final family is moving in.

Meanwhile, the housebuilder says there has been "unprecedented demand" from buyers for its new-build homes at High Wood, in Lancaster city centre. The properties have been designed to reflect the city's architectural heritage.
